I awoke in Aspirre soon after closing my eyes. Now, my soul sat along an isolated brick road that floated within the black abyss of the Dream realm.

I turned to my right and found Jimmy was only now appearing on the same strip of road. His soul began as strings of azure light that swirled and wove into existence until they solidified into his more tangible, antlered form. When his eyes snapped open, he found me and rose, as did I, meeting him midway on the road. Soon, the dozen other Catchers from the jail cell appeared on their own zipping strings of light, and one by one, they fell into a determined block behind us, weaving themselves extra space on the road with their glowing Hallows. They then wove themselves fox-masks, as was part of the traditional Dreamcatcher’s garb to hide their faces. Jimmy and I wove our own fox-masks to match them, but his had an elegant, red design running down the right side of his mask while mine had a blue design curling down the left side of my mask. This was Jimmy and my usual formation, so the others could identify us over the mass. Somehow, they preferred knowing which ones we were.

I evoked my Hallows and wove a translucent blue barrier around the whole of this area, knowing it was surely the missing girl’s subconscious zone. It would help keep out the golems upon our return and mark the zone so we could find it again. The girl couldn’t wake unless she was brought back here, where her body lay in the physical parallel.

Now that her zone was protected, I led the knights off the isolated road, weaving myself a pair of azure wings to fly over the empty abyss before landing on the next strip of road. Jimmy and the others followed suit, and we hopped from road to road.

In the distance, I found the center square of Timberail’s Aspirrian parallel. Parallel cities were the approximate locations that directly corresponded with the physical world. This particular parallel consisted of a few small buildings and a block of cobbled road that hovered suspended in Aspirre’s blackness.

Flying with our makeshift wings, we touched down two roads before the isolated city. I crouched over the edge of the bricks under my bare feet and overlooked the terrain, holding up a fist to signal everyone to halt.

“Everyone, send out scouting copies,” I said and evoked my blue Hallows, spreading my fist out to an adjacent road beneath me. Several fox-masked copies of myself were woven into existence in a stream of light, each holding the same wings I still had, and each of them flew off in different directions toward the city.

Jimmy did the same with his copies, and I glanced back to be sure the rest of our group followed our example.

Jimmy called back to them behind his red-marked mask, “Spread out and find the girl. And keep an eye out for enemy walkers.”

They all gave confirming grunts before I hopped off the road and flew into the city, ducking behind one of the buildings.
